Pet therapy classes will follow the Canines for Therapy format and will focus on preparing the handler
and the dog for various therapy situations and environments. We will work on skills that prepare you to
be around medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc), distracting environments, food, loud
noises and various scenarios you may encounter while out on a therapy visit. Topics will include dog
body language (stress and calming signals) and protecting your dog, client interactions, facilities,
infection control and volunteering as a therapy team.
The price of the class includes seven (7) sessions, as well as a Canines for Therapy Student Manual and
official Assessment (will be scheduled as your 7 th session).

Pre-Class requirements

 Dog must be at least 1 year of age and should be living with you/handler for at least 6 months
 Dog must have passed the Canine Good Citizen test prior to start of class
 Dog must have strong and reliable basic training and have no aggression issues around other
dogs or people.
 All dogs must have their Rabies and DHPP vaccinations or titers. Proof of vaccinations or titers
must be brought to first class.
 Dog may not be on a raw diet.

Tuition, Fees and Duration:

$190.00: includes a Canines for Therapy Student Manual and official Canines for Therapy assessment.
Class will meet once a week for 7 weeks. (see class location and schedule section for upcoming classes)
First night of class will be orientation, NO dogs the first night. Assessment will take place the last week.
$70.00: cost for additional handler attending class
Class size: 6 dogs maximum
Fee to Canines for Therapy:  There is an $85 fee to Canines for Therapy to cover your background check, Canines for Therapy vest (for the dog), ID badge and liability insurance.  At the start of class, you will be provided a link to complete the registration application online.  You will need to provide/upload a photo, recent vet records, Animal Health Screening form (completed by vet), CGC certification, and information about you and your dog.
$50.00: Re-assessments (teams must reassess every 2 years)  There will be a $10 fee to Canines for Therapy for your liability insurance.
$20.00: Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing (please contact me to schedule)

Class Location and Schedule

Classes will be held at Raleigh Community Animal Hospital, located at 1108 Dresser Ct, Raleigh NC 27609. All classes will be held on Tuesday evenings (unless otherwise noted), starting at 6:30pm.
The first night of class is Orientation, you should not bring your dog to orientation.
Classes will focus on preparing the handler and the dog for various therapy situations and environments. The price of the class covers one team assessment (handler and dog). Let me know if you have an additional handler you
would like to be evaluated.
